IMPERFECT CIRCLES Concentric Marks by Sylvie Renault OLBIA COSTA SMERALDA AIRPORT - A R T - P O R T CORNER PRESS RELEASE OLBIA, 13 July 2013 – Geasar presents at the Art-Port Corner of Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport the 25th contemporary art exhibition, featuring a solo show by artist Sylvie Renault. In her work, the artist has explored the concept of perfection in imperfection and, through seven works displayed on the wall of Karafood, distills an investigation into the concentric mark, which she emphasizes with layers of color, filling the voids and giving them new form. Renault lives and works in Rome and has chosen to exhibit in Sardinia as well the work already shown in galleries in Rome and New York. But this artist’s creativity does not end with painting: Renault also pursues an intensive parallel practice in planning and design, always connected to installations and communication. Inspired by a deep sensitivity to social changes, to the flaws of human complexity and to the emotional turmoil that follows, she is skilled at creating an effect of movement on canvas, including in her pictorial narrative. The solo exhibition in Olbia embodies a return to imperfection, even in the physical arrangement of the display: the paintings are positioned irregularly precisely to emphasize the performative experience that the artist cannot contain, finding in every intervention and situation an opportunity to express complete emotional and artistic involvement. Along the edges of her unframed works, she writes phrases taken from the songs she listens to while creating them, which symbolically frame the work, emphasizing its strong conceptual foundation.

On the journey of life.

On the journey of life.

by Sylvie Renault | 18 Nov 2012 | Me, Theories

“You have to lose something you care about,” came the words, “to finally be able to rise again within yourself.” “Let go of who you are and return to who you were, free of structures and conditioning. Return just as you are, exactly as I am creating you now. One day this will be your most beautiful journey.” And little by little, wrapped in her nest, she faded away as she watched herself being reborn. Indeed, no one found any ashes. Is it the mother who brings forth the child from her remains, or the child who brings itself forth from the mother who is leaving it? The same factors, the same equation. Natural separation. First birth, then growth, finally passing away. Death or genesis? End or beginning? The same pain. An identical rebirth. On the journey of life. Sylvie Renault

by Sylvie Renault | 13 Nov 2012 | Exhibitions, News

On Saturday 17 November, “La Parola al Colore” opens at Coronari 111 ArtGallery in Rome, at Via dei Coronari, 111. Curated by Beppe Palomba for the Accademia della Bussola, the exhibition features 16 artists engaging with the theme of colour, from the pared-down rigour of black and white to the most vibrant chromatic expression, pouring the entire spectrum of the palette into their works to perform, once again, the miracle of Art. The works thus range from photographic images to Digital Art, from oil paintings to mixed-media techniques, by artists such as Domenico Aquilino, Valeria Ballestrazzi, Elena Binder, Raffaela Boffelli, Adolfo Candreva, Germana Di Paolo, Marisa Gaddi, Elettra La Marca, Lamberto Melina, Sylvie Renault, Patrizia Rubicondi, Chiara Scala, Egidio Scardamaglia, Daniele Stefano, Valerio Tirapani, and Marcello Ursomando, all engaging with the world of Colour. Figurative and informal works, carefully selected to present the various ways of expressing sensibilities and techniques to give “Colour a voice”. The exhibition will remain open from 11:30 to 13:30 and from 15:30 to 19:00 every day except Sunday and Monday morning until 25 November. Vernissage on Saturday 17 November at 17:30.

It ends here, what harm does someone leaving do – Living without you – Last step

It ends here, what harm does someone leaving do – Living without you – Last step

by Sylvie Renault | 10 Apr 2012 | Painting, Step by Step

Every painting has its own story. And lately I've enjoyed telling it. Living without you is about separation and the rebirth that follows. The natural separation of life, like that between a mother and a daughter, which happens first through growing up and then through death. Equal factors in the same equation. Is it the mother who gives birth to the daughter from her remains, or the daughter who gives birth to herself from the mother who is leaving her? Death or childbirth? End or beginning? Equal pain. The same rebirth. Last year, three wonderful women close to my heart experienced this natural yet agonizing transformation firsthand. Michela, Chiara and Chiara. And I accompanied them on this journey as much as I could. And it is to them that I want to dedicate this painting. And to their three wonderful mothers. In particular to Annagrazia, who introduced me, when I was just 16, to the song that inspired this painting, "Living without you", by George Winston, alternating with a fantastic Caterina Caselli, with "Insieme a te non ci sto più". I recommend looking at its shimmering brushstrokes while listening to this music.
